Topoclimate Farm Plans – Taking the Big Step
Topoclimate Farm Plans allow farmers to use quality land resource information to plan and take the steps towards a better future.
These Plans are often the on-farm part of a wider community-based Topoclimate Process. However, each Plan is focused on the situation on each individual property and takes into account the personal circumstances of the individual farmer and property.
The first step in preparing a Topoclimate Farm Plan usually is to identify the critical physical parameters that affect what you can do with your land.
The following factors are some of the critical elements that can be included in your Topoclimate Farm Plan:
Microclimates
Finding those special microclimates on your farm that maximise returns. We can measure and map your:
- Soil and Air Temperatures
- Relative Humidity
- Rainfall
- Wind Speed and Direction
- Other climatic variables on request.
Soils
Accurate soil mapping at a farm scale will allow you to site your fences to separate out different soils, and apply fertilisers precisely to each paddock according to its needs.
Sowing the right pasture species on each soil type can also improve farm productivity.
Water Resources
Measuring and mapping your water resources including:
- Watercourses
- Groundwater
- Dams and Ponds
- Water storage and reticulation
- Irrigation
Land Resource Planning
Combining your land resource data into useable information to assist you with farm management decision making. These plans and reports may be eligible for assistance from State and Federal Agencies.
The land resource information can be used to find more productive ways to farm your land including:
- Fertiliser application programmes to obtain maximum value from your fertiliser budget.
- Sorting out the right grass seed mixes for each soil type.
- Developing optimal grazing systems based on soils and climates.
- Property fencing to maximise land use.
- Finding the optimal crop for each part of your farm based on the land resource data.
